Where the winches aren't.
AAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Right, here's my Sunday evening rant.

Went out this morning to check/change all the oils on my (relatively new to me) Deepender (had it a couple of weeks now & still grinning). Well when I drained a little of the gearbox oil I recognised the heady smell of EP90, not the expected ATF!

Bluddy, bluddy morons! I don't know if the previous owner had done it or the last garage he misguidedly took it to. WHY DON'T PEOPLE CHECK WHAT THEY'RE DOING BEFORE THEY BLUDGEON ON?

I can only hope it hasn't done too much damage. I suspect it may have been like it a while as the goo that came out was far from pretty & the guy I bought it from sort of hinted at slow clunky gearchanges. I'd noticed an increasing reluctance to go into gear too & expected to find a low level or perhaps a leak. NOT EPBLUDDY90!

Thank feck I'm well aquainted with the smell of the stuff (thanks to my recently departed III). Well, shifts ain't bluddy sticky now, within a quarter mile it was shifting noticeably better & after a short green lane this afternoon (just to get the ATF around the low box & stuff you unnerstan') it's positively silky by comparison.

Footnote: Oh lawks, now I've actually found a day dry enough to have a good poke around unnerneeth, dodgy fluids in me gearbox are the least of my worries! Well, there's my work cut out until Spring then!

To a point chap. Give me back my nice solid, nothing to do unnerneeth it III anyday. This truck's 7 years younger & a bluddy mess!

Still, be nice when it's dun tho' (not that they ever really are 'finished' eh?) & I was impressed with it in the slippery stuff today, so it ain't all bad.

I go away & sulk fer' months and still that fishtank bluddy haunts me!

ADZ have a shufty at my profile. The pic that's still on there is of the snorkel on my III. Was really proud of the job I'd done though did have misgivings about the fish tank/coffee percolator/lighthouse on the top!

I was cruxified on here for it! Was fekkin pony on reflection!

Must change that pic when I have one of me 90. That was the only bit of my III I wasn't sad to see go!

Only issue I can foresee with the EP being in it, is that its quite thick and the transmission will have its own oil pump, hence why ATF is used, the pump may have struggled to get the oil along the top of the gearbox as fast as it could squirt ATF.

But as yella says, its probably given it an alright lubeing inside.

Yeah, might account for the difficult shifts & what sounded & felt like the synchro gear getting gooed up instead of doing what it wuz intended for.

Good to know it probably hasn't totalled me cogz.

So, was going to drain it/fil it again in a couple of weeks to get rid of any last gunk. Do you think I'm being too fussy then chaps?

A flushing it is, hope we get at least one dry day over crimbo then. Still, found a good use for the pointless bench seat I stripped outta the back of the 90, tops for lying on under the truck.

Ha ha, be good to see the additions to my snorkel again, they did improve it.

D'you know, the guy who bought it loved that fish tank, but then he didn't associate with you lot!

aye i agree wiv the slobmeister on this one, fussy is good, btw, if yer loook in my picture gallery you will see there is a piccy of the lighthouse and fishtank contraption in situ ;)

I woz never confused! (unlike Saffron)

I saw that pic earlier, dunno about 'contraption', I figured it was landy 'contraception' meself!

dont worry if you loose the photo, marcus.
weve made lots of copies, and distributed them all over the www.

if your grandkids ever need a copy............
