so my 2.5 petrol has started to produce some white smoke, seems worse on tickover, also looks to be a little smoke around the manifold just under the carb, starts an runs ok but the smoke is a little worrying, any idea guys what the problem might be...

Petrol - could be crank case pressure build. How is you crank case vent/fliter/breather? could be valve guides leaking oil, rings........ when was last time you changed oil and filter? miles and how long of time( months)?

changed oil and filters last week, sounds to be running a bit lumpy too,,usually ticks over nicely, but know seems to be a bit ruff..also cleaned the breather too

Ok time to check things then Fuel filter changed, stuck choke, dirty carb/s, plugs, plug wires, carb gasket as you say you see oil there could be sucking to much air and run lean, could burn valves and cause over heating.

So there is the list to check, me would be carb gasket and plugs first and make sure you have proper gap for the plugs.

Also you could start it up let it idle and spray carb cleaner at base of carb where it goes on the intake and see if revs increase if it does bad carb gasket
