Whine from gearbox/transmission area at around 60mph. Clears at 65mph+.
Should l be worried? Transmission and transfer case oil have been changed recently.

2005 TD5. 82,000 miles.

Gearbox oil been changed? did you see the old oil removed from the diffs/tfer cases? ie was there any silvering of the oil.

The oil looked OK but l did not examine it in detail tbh.

You dont need to examine its very obvious if its going silver, its doesnt mean its the end of the world just yet, just something is wearing, we see it all the time on the truck boxes and they keep going year after year.

There was a lovely passage in the Haynes manual we had for our old Series 2 about the need to balance the effort of rebuilding a gearbox against the amount of inconvenience the driver was prepared to put up with day-to-day. I don't think it says that any more, but the point still holds true. If the transmission is excessively noisy or the gears won't change it's worth doing something about. Similarly, if there is a lot of metal in the used gear oil it might be time to investigate. However, most used gear oil has a bit of a sparkle when the sunlight catches it, yet the gearbox will soldier on for many thousands more miles. Mine sounds a bit different depending on what I've got in there. Expensive Difflock Evolution gives a swooshy sound, whereas MTF 94 gives a sharper metallic note.

Thanks, l will leave it then as it's just a whine at certain speeds.
My local LR place suggested a gearbox additive such as Forte but it's £16 a tube and l'd need two....these things have mixed reviews.
Some say "snake oil" while others sing their praises.
