Which Range Rover

Hi,
I have a few questions, I am soon selling my Skyline GTR and going for a P38 Range and wondered which to go for the Petrol with an LPG conversion or a Diesel? I have driven a done up 4.6 before and it sounded awesome...

Also what is different in the Vogue and HSE?

Also a buyers style guide would be great.......

As a petrol owner, I can tell you the 2.5 Diesel is gutless and needs a chip upgrade and even then doesn't feel like a petrol does....go drive both and make a decision.....its the only way to find out.

Is a skyline a sort of foreign car thing ?

Just got a P38 4.6 to keep my Classic company.. Beautiful

Save up for the fuel though it costs over 100 pounds to fill it.

On here you will get a 50/50 response about what to buy, there are for's and against's from both sides, but whatever you decide....

Look for the threads about what to look for if you don't know and check out as many as you can and get a feel for what you are buying before you commit yourself.

Proper cars for proper people..

Don't be lulled into buying the nicest looking lowest mileage one with all the fancy electrics. Often a more basic one with manual seats, etc can be more reliable (less to go wrong). Eight year old Vogues with 35k miles may, if you are lucky, have just had light use but may equally have sat about in Mr main dealers for 6 months of each year at over £120 per hour. If its the look you are after the body shell is the same whatever model you get. If you are out to impress people by the look of the car it won't matter how unfancy the interior looks. Been there, two years ago with a 4.6 Vogue that the main dealer, specialist electrician, supplying garage and local independent couldn't fix. (Got a full refund after a great deal of to-ing and fro-ing.) Now happy with a 4.0 Base model (with 18" wheels, colour coded grille/ mirrors, side steps, etc). The P38 is a fickle car - go wisely!

Forgot to mention, try and avoid Y reg onwards. Nothing to do with reliability but its the new tax disc prices from next year. £440 in 2009 and £455 in 2010. This years budget made a great play of the £950 levied on new cars with high emissions and kind of whispered about the other bit.

The later HSE's and Vouges are the same except cup holders in the read arm rest. I not sure if the Sat Nav was standard, I think it was still an option.

There is a difference between the 95>98 99>on models. Eg. Stereo, leather door cards, chrome handes, colour coded lights/ bumpers, hazard light switch etc.. As well as some of the electrice parts/ fixes.

After looking i decided on the later HSE 99'00 age before the higher Tax started.

But i'm sure everyone will agree, full serivce history, everything MUST work, take a 'Friend' who knows the cars or get a indipendant inspection. Compare a few different models after a few you tend to get an idea of the condition of the car.

I decided along time ago that I would have a petrol, I had it converted to gas when i bought the car, I get better MPG/£ that my mates 300Tdi Disco. I just dont like older desiels.
