Can any body help me,
I want to fit a more modern and more economical engine in my petrol 88" series III,.
Will a Disco 2 or 3ltr TDI fit straight in or do I have to rely on getting a Deffender unit. And what size is best, ie: 2ltr, 2.5ltr or 3ltr.TDI or is there a more economical petrol unit that would be suitable.

Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on you.

Ethel.

I really hate to see people throwing out the old 2.25 gas engines. With an electric fuel pump, new carb, and electronic ignition. They are pretty darn reliable, easy to work on, and get you where you need to go. A diesel engine is going to give you loads more power, but eat up your drive train and cause the car to vibrate like an electric toothbrush.
If you want to get more power out of the 2.25 check out this site. Land Rover Performance Tuning - Power Plus - Land Rover cylinder heads, camshafts, SU Carb system, 2.8 engines - ACR - Automotive Component Remanufacturing Ltd

I think maybe petrol, or gas as you call it is perhaps a bit cheaper in alaska than it is in the UK? Not many people can afford to run a 2.25 petrol these days, let alone a tuned one.

Well, I drive my rover about 3000 - 4000 miles a year, so I'm not really one to care about fuel economy. But yes... Fuel in Alaska is a bit cheaper considering I live right next to the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
