Which 17" Tyres?

Hi

Inevitably its time for some new boots (spurred on after a spot of ice skating!) Ringing round it appears that everybody has the same idea and local suppliers can get hold of a limited range. The ones I have been offered are Federal (£72 fitted), Kumho KL17 (£88 fitted), Uniroyal Rallye (£136 fitted) and Pirelli Scorpion STR (£143 fitted).All have the correct speed rating. Non are the same load rating as the Synchrones (101), they are all 97. Will this make that much difference. The prices seem to compare well with e-shops although Black circles have Yokohama advan ST V802 (w and 101) at £121 fitted.
Anybody any experience with these brands / models or using Blackcircles?

Have used blackcircles as a comparison but never used them, a few people i know use them though and they've never said anything bad...

I wouldn't worry too much about the load rating 97 mean each tyre can have 730 kilos load, so unless you tow with a full car this should be fine.

As a general rule your tyres are your only point of contact so don't scrimp on them, the uniroyals or pirellis would be my choice, but i did have a car with Kuhmos on all round which I have to say were faultless.

The Syncrones I've just had replaced were 97 load rating, they still had some tread left but were cracking badly. I had Pirelli Scorpions fitted at £118 each from my local independent tyre place. They are classed as an M+S tyre and have proved OK in the snow.

I ordered the Pirellis. Normally next day delivery but with the weather might be here by next week! Then I've just got to save up for another set. There's plenty of tread on the now rears (soon to be front) but there is some cracking to the sidewalls. The spare has never been on. Shame synchrones aren't still available.

Make sure the new tyres are fitted to the rear! otherwise bye bye mr VCU!!

You did put them on the back, didn't you?
