Hey, I've taken my Freelander in to have a look-see under the hood too see what is wrong with it.. The main problem is the Air-con/Defroster doesnt work. He said its the problem with the leaking coolant and apparently whatever the coolant leaked on is no good now either. He brought up the total to be around 1,500 USD, which seems a bit ridiculous although land rover parts are like that, he is the only person around here that knows half a damn about what hes saying when it comes to these vehicles. I'm wondering if there is a better way to fix this and what actually needs to be done.

BTW: I think it is quite ridiculous that Land Rover continues to ignore their customers issue's, if they would pay for the damn thing the car would get better reviews.
more info on the car, its an 03 with 65,000 miles on it which translates to about 104000 kilometers

sorry if this has already been posted

but I'm too damn lazy, stupid or possibly both to do a search.

yet another cock comes on here expecting an immediate response, and cops the camel when someone doesn't spring up straight away with the answer to all his problems, telling how to fix it for under 10 pence, (or a nickel as he's a septic).

perhaps if you did a search you might find the answers you are looking for. Try first of all searching for rave cd, at greenoval.com. Download it and you will find some pictures of your engine (whichever one it is, you didn't say, but still expected us to know whats wrong). Maybe you can work out what the refrigerant has leaked on, which your mechanic says in damaged. After all he is, and I quote "the only person around here that knows half a damn about what hes saying when it comes to these vehicles".

As for landrover paying for the faults, what kind of manufacturer's warranty do you think you should get ? After all, the vehicle is now 6 years old, with 65,000 miles on the clock. Perhaps you should consider buying a Kia or some other Korean car, with a 7 year 100000 mile warranty. See how much fun that can be.

Before you go ranting on about how unfriendly we are over the pond, try having a look at some of your own forums, and see the kind of reception we got when we (users of this forum) all joined up and logged in one night. Some of us were even banned before we'd posted.

Good Luck.

what did the coolant leak on, do you mean engine coolant(antifreeze) or refrigerant (R134a) in my experience the main cause of air con leaks is damage to the radiator, as for coolant leaks it could be anything, what engine does it have?

R134a is a fairly harmless substance and i cant think what it could have damaged

Ohh Optimus! Go!!!

This time i agree with you - how can you expect any car to be fault free this far in? Maybe we should petition LR and Downing St cos LR dealers won't give new tyres for free cos the original spec ones are wearing too quickly- or maybe cos it's been chav'd up......

air con fix - open window.

right i'm off now to fix my 3 amigoes - again - strange this time in that they pop up when they like - stop engine. restart - engage HDC and drive, foot off gas ABS kicks in, then disengage and the lights go out.

i'm thinking brake switch now.

take it back in!!! if your original dealer is still open and you can prove it was bought from them i'm sure they'll oblige by immediatly swapping for a nice new freelander2 which you can then have the pleasure of frequent trips back to see them!

or just buy one with a k series engine......

but then i wouldn't be able to go offroad and i would have to leave my job and become a hairdresser

but wouldn't that be a small price to pay for such a quality warranty??

and why would you want to go off road cos as us hippo owners are told - it'll get wet and the doors will fall off. hmm another air con fix - no doors!!!

By the looks of the car in his signature I'd say it's a 2.5l KV6. (As far as I know the only Freelanderengine imported in the States).
