Alright guys??

My mate has been lookin for a deepender for a few months now. He has come accross the following on egay.

____________________________________________________________

Here for sale is a very clean and solid example of the 90 Defender
It is a 1991 J plate with 96,000 miles on the clock and full service history (stamped in the book), it has the 200 Tdi engine which starts on the first turn of the key and runs very smoothly with no smoke. The gearbox and running gear are very good, no whines or other noises, all gears select well. The chassis is excellent, it recently had its first small plate welded for the MOT and 2 plates on the the crossmember, shown in pics. The bulkhead has been repaired at the top outer corners (repair panels fitted) and the rest is fine. The bodywork is good, there are just a few small dents, and the bottom of the doors the paint is peeling, the paintwotk generally would probably come up well with some T-cut. The door frames and footwells are solid.

This Land Rover also has loads of extras including:

  • Snorkel
  • Full roll cage - fixed to chassis
  • husky Winch
  • ARB air locking diffs - air compressor in back
  • 4" lift
  • BFGoodrich Mud terrains - 35 x 12.5 r 15 - loads of tread left
  • Air con fitted - not sure if its working
  • Spotlights

It has been through an auction on egay and wasnt sold. The seller says he can have it for £3,500. Seems fookin cheap to me!!

My mate has spoken to the seller who says he bought it to make some money on.. Which means he got it for fook all...

Does anyone recognise it or can suggest why it is so cheap?

It does say it has had welding done on the chassis. What would be the cost of replacing the chassis with a galv??

to replace the chassis you'd be looking at £800 ish plus time - but that chassis doesnt need replacing

it looks ok ish but it is a lot of money, shame about the yellow cage and silly looking lights above the screen - bargins can be had, such as the 200Tdi 90 also with FSH i had locally for less than £800 not so long ago

make sure it starts instantly from cold, drive it for long enough to get it hot - and then make sure it's not smoking/leaking etc etc

Sounds like quite an honest description, all in all.

My own (limited to my first and only Defender) is that if the top corners of the bulkhead are shot, then so are the top hinge mounts, the bottom of the A pillar and the outer footwells.

a brand new galvanised chassis costs £1045+vat+delivery so its not that cheap moat places do a swap complete with lots of new bits for around £3000
