Hi folks,
Having totally rebuilt my Disco 1, learning as i went, i now know exactly whats steel, aluminium, what needs isolated from what etc.

I have just purchased my first 90 and i am excited to get stuck in, but not yet aware of how its built! Prime example; looking for a replacement battery box and i've found steel, galv steel, but also aluminium! So a little surprised i get the choice of aluminium or steel!

So my question is, where could i get a hold of an exploded diagram or similar which shows whats steel, aluminium etc and a high level 'how its put together' rather than in depth workshop manual.

Thanks!

haha, thats how i learnt on the disco - the whole lot was rusted!

Only issues with the suggested methods is previous mods - why can you buy panels in aluminium or steel? This is surly asking for problems...

The battery box (and tool box under the drivers seat of a 110) is steel as standard but the rest of the seat box is aluminium, if it needs replacing definitely go for an aluminium replacements to reduce future problems. There isn't much on a defender that is steel bodywork wise but it depends on the age of the vehicle, as the later models have more steel and less aluminium.

Thanks for the reply!

It seems to make sense to go for an aluminium box if all interfaces are aluminium then! But i don't understand why most for sale are steel.... surly that is just asking for problems?!
