So looks like water pump is starting to give up on me and seems down on power so I’m very tempted to strip down and replace the cam and lifters. What else would you replace while your at it.

I’m probably going to do it over next few months and buy a cheap runaround for over winter. I’ve other things on my list if there is anything else I should be doing while I’m at that area point it out please.

my to do list so far is
Front air bag
Front shocks
Every bush on the car
Water pump
Belt and tensioner
Possibly power steering pipes as they are very rusty
Engine oil and filter
Gearbox and the pan off
new Rocker gaskets and hopefully spray the rockers

interior faults
Headlining
Side trim panels
Seat refurb
Heater motors as have book symbol
Cruise control
Front door lock doesn’t open with the rest
Drivers door struggles to open from outside
this is why I got the car cheap most of this apart from water pump isn’t urgent but while I’m stripping stuff down might as well do a proper job haha.

I would replace the fuel lines. Mine just gave up for MOT could be E10 related or not but wouldnt help
And no point in changing just one air bag cos the others will go soon
Service EAS valve block

Fuel lines could be a good shout I’m to get it up on stands soon so will check them out. Diff and transfer oil look very new and clean so presuming they have been done recently.
I don’t know about timing chain will take the front cover off and check. My viscous fan works I presume as rev and it goes wild and doesn’t overheat on a journey.

Sounds like your viscous fan might be seized:eek: The other VCU to check is the one in the transmission.

The gods of Land Rovers have heard you so beware:eek::eek::D
Yeah made a rod for my own back there haha

As I rev with bonnet up when fan speeds up with engine take it that it’s not meant to then and only do that when hot. What’s the VCU in the transmission??

Viscous fan should offer little resistance to turning by hand after it's been running for a few mins, but before it's got up to running temp. Then go stiff again when it's hot and needs more cooling. The exact temp this happens isn't given but i would think over at least 95c

The transmission VCU is in the front of the transfer box and is a cheap and nasty alternative to a centre diff lock. They have a habit of seizing up causing transmission wind up.
To check, jack one front wheel off the ground, gearbox in neutral, with great sustained effort you should be able to slowly rotate the wheel. You may need to put a long bar on a wheel nut to get the wheel to move.

Thanks I’ll give that a go when I get to it. Another thing to add to list haha
