hi just got a old series 3 , i was just wondering what the biggest size wheels and tyre i could get on it. ( to give it a wider footprint and so it doesn't look like its about to topple over at any min)

i'm looking at getting just getting white spoke wheels anyone know where to get a good set with tyres?

thur int nowt wrong with the standad size tyre, although if yer got a swb you could stick the 7.50's off a lwb base on it. if you go bigger you'll make the steering even heavier, have to screw in yer steering stops and reduce your already oil tanker size turning circle. if you chose to go the wheel spacer route you'll put any strain on the swivel/hub components especially the wheel bearings.
or you could go for 205's instead of the 650/750's which will give yer the desired effect.........ah think

you could try paddock fer yer wheels as they do wheel/tyre combo which will save yer the fitting fees. there are others about and am sure someone will come up with a cheaper alternative to paddock

haynes say 205.80/16 replaced 5.00/16 tyres. we have 7.50/16's on, equivilent to 235.85/16, no mods work great and plenty about on ebay with wheels

what landies came with 5.00 16's?

and yer 235's are wider than yer 7.50's if you put 235's on yer gonna have to adjust yer steering stops probelly and that makes yer turning circle about the same size as the artic circle

I've got 7.50x16 Michelin XCL's on LWB rims for muddy days and 265/70R16 Pirelli ice and snow on Disco 1 steel rims for winter use. I've had no problems with either set rubbing on my 88 series 3

235/85 R16s will git yer out of pretty much anything & look right. Dunno if me steering stops have been wound out parteecurleley, dun't look it & me tyres dun't foul on nuffink.
