Aside from offers to invest in the latest oppourtunity in helping a Nigerian Prince recover his lost fortune - what can I get for £6k guys?

I've been on here, Witham MOD, fleabay and Autotrader and to be honest I'm none the wiser. The asking prices have such a wide range for similar vehicles.

I'm looking for a Defender 110 or 90 RH drive hardtop. Erring to the ex mil type as I'm only interested in it for practical use and not blinging it up. It will basicaly be a workhorse for Landscaping and an emergency vehicle for the 6 weeks we seem to get snowed in each year.

Under 100k mileage with a service history, and no rust and in general good order with wheels and an engine inc.

Witham has some nice ones for that with a Wolf roll bar system but the dreaded VAT rears its head. Land Rover, Defender 110 Tithonus Hardtop RHD, #51497 - MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Used Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale

My experience with these types of vehicle dates back from the 80's to mid 90's in the Forces so I'm not really up to speed on the latest spec and pros & cons but I've got a good idea I've what these babys can do from my bondu bashing days in the strip downs.

I've a pint of the cold stuff ready in the barrel for any helpful comments............................................. Lights blue touch paper and stands well clear:boom:

Cheers

Russ

Rusty - that looks sweet.

How bad is the rust and what would you expect to pay if you can't DIY?

Pyydg - excuse my ignorance - NAD?

Russ (pouring into a tilted glass for both of you:cool:)

NAD = A normally aspirated diesel, ((naturally-aspirated engine (N/A)) is a reciprocating internal combustion engine that depends solely on atmospheric pressure to draw in combustion air. This is in contrast to a forced induction engine, in which a mechanical or exhaust-driven blower is employed to increase the volume of intake air beyond what could be produced by atmospheric pressure alone...

Turbocharging is the norm rather than the exception in modern car and truck diesel engines. As with any turbocharged engine, turbo-diesels can offer higher specific power outputs, lower emissions levels, improved efficiency and higher refinement levels than their naturally aspirated counterparts...

Its not that bad really and nothing a couple of hundred quid wouldn't fix if you were getting it done for you

That's Land Rovers though and a big part of owning them is keeping them from falling apart

If you're interested in ex MOD then 6k will pickup a very nice one with 100% solid chassis etc. For that money you could also get a tdi engine conversion. Thats what I did. You could also pickup a galvanised chassis 300tdi in mint condition. Just see whats on ebay. You can tell if its overpriced as it will appear over and over again.
