This first of two questions probably sounds really dumb, I don't know how much the part is going to cost because I don't know what it's called and so can't look online for prices.
It's on a 110 SW, the piece of steel channel underneath the floor that sits approx 6 inches behind the rear out-riggers. It goes most of the width of the vehicle.
It's shown on the image on roversnotrth site, but not listed under chassis or body as far as I can see. It's the piece that looks on the image to almost touch the rear bottom link, but I know it's just an illusion. It sits on top of the chassis, mounting to the chassis by 4 bolts and the runs out to parts of the body.
Land Rover Defender 90, 110, 130 Accessories, Engine, Filters, Fuel, Exhaust, Cooling & Heating, Clutch, Transmission, Steering, Brakes, Drivetrain, Suspension, Chassis, Body, Electrical Parts and Accessories Available from RoversNorth.com.
Next question.
I need to replace the rear cross member. The chassis legs to it are good. It's somewhere near £70 more to buy a cross member with legs, but is it much of a job to do it as a bare cross member?
Bare- i guess I need to remove the rear body and fuel tank, cut off the old cross member from the legs, and weld on the new one.
With extensions- I guess I can simply remove the fuel tank, cut the existing legs, weld the new extensions to the cut legs. It sounds a lot easier this way, and worth the additional £70 or so.
Anybody, any thoughts?
BTW, I have a tank for LPG in the rear body, so removing the body probably means disturbing that as well.
