my speedo has packed up, originally thought it was the cable (bought a new one) but its still not going. anyway I know a guy who is wrecking a 2a  and was wondering there is any difference?

they are both lwb so that shouldn't make a difference.

The Series 3 speedo has a high beam light and indicator light built in. (well I think thats the combination)

However, before you get a new one; take the dash out and disconnect the speedo cable, now drive along a short distance, does your speedo cable turn?

If not, then the problem isnt the speedo. It may be with the gear or you brought a duff cable.

You need to make sure both ends of the cable outer are seated properly - you will probably need to rotate the gearbox output shaft to get the cable inner to seat so the cable outer will fit properly. If you stick a screwdriver in the old speedo drive and spin it does it indicate? If so look elsewhere for the fault.

good news, I tested the speedo unit itself, no luck was dead as a christmas goose.

stripped it and part of the mechanism was binding, cleared that up and its perfect now.

the cable needed to be replaced as it was also causing a problem, checked it against a GPS and its bang on, it doesn't waver at all either :D:D
