As per title really, I've got some scrap to get rid of and I've got a couple of these as well as bell housings off 300tdi's. Are they an alloy or aluminium?
What is a timing cover made of??

Probably an aluminium alloy!
Most metals used in engineering are alloys, pure metals don't usually have the properties needed.
I don't think they will have much ferrous content, you could confirm that with a magnet.

Gert, I've got a couple of cooked cylinder heads and body panels off a disco and it's to much hassle to ebay themProbably an aluminium alloy!

Tdi onwards, heads are alloy, so I would imagine they can all go up the scrappies together.

Great, thanks for that. At the mo my drive looks like Steptoe's yard, even the gypo's are coming past shaking their headsTdi onwards, heads are alloy, so I would imagine they can all go up the scrappies together.
