Hi folks. I have a range rover P38 4.0 V8 1996 automatic, with LPG system on it. My rangie has done more then 280.000 KM. What i should see check or change in this engine now?? Any recomandation???? He consume about 1 liter of oli for 1500 KM. Can be a vlave problem this oil consumption or is normal???? I dont have problems with heat or leaks, everythings works ok in general . Is only 1 problems with idle rpm, that i consider to change the idle valve. What can i do for that oil consumtion??? I dont know if this engine is rebuilded or not. Can someone give me a list of things that i have to check and change for this mileage???

I told you on fb three things caus loss of oil a leak, check oil cooler filter housing rear crankshaft seal and engine casings for leaks.
piston rings and bores, worn valve guide seals leaking one is check for leaks two do a compression test three if your bores are good check valve seals

Ok. Any real sugestion :)???? What i have to do????

Compressions should be good and within 10 PSI of each other. If any are low. Put a little oil in cylinder and check compression again. If compression rises, rings are worn if it stays the same valves need grinding. Check the plugs for oiling, if you have any dirty plugs that match a low cylinder were compression rises after oil is put in bore, rings need changing. Whilst you have heads off to do rings, do a valve job and fit new stem oil seals. If you go that deep it would be silly not to fit new shells and an oil pump. After reading this you may decide a litre of oil every 1000 miles is not that bad an outlay.
