Chassis number shows it should be a standard petrol 2.25 unit, but it's not and I don't think it looks like any other 2.25 diesel I've seen. Is it a 2.5 n/a unit?

and a great shot of the 6 tone 50 tune siren with led cab controls (no honest - someone put it in there) - oh and the oil cooler pipes connected together without going through a cooler.

Ant chance of a bigger picture, especially the fronmt end. I suspect it may be a 2.5 normally aspirated from a Sherpa.
Can you find an engine number on it?

Looks like a Sherpa unit to me as well.

As for differences, I believee that the cam belt cover is just a cover and not water/mud proof. IIRC the timing cover are not interchangeable between Sherpa and LR engine..........maybe wrong :) This conversion was pretty popular late 90s, early 00s before the 200Tdi became cheap.

It also means the cam belt, when you come to order one, is different,
as are a number of other bits.

Main difference is the cam belt cover snd the injector pump which is lower
so you have to modify the right hand engine mounton the chassis.

More to the point, to fit the Sherpa version in a Series you do not need to alter the mount, to fit the 90 version, you do, which is one reason the Sherpa engine was a popular option (apart from there beng more rusty Sherpas in scrap yards!)

Bit more detail here...

Also there are a lot of wires just hanging around - connected to something at one end and sparking a lot. It's going to be interested to see what the heck someone has done with this poor old thing.

Can anyone link me to their pictures of a 2.5 n/a sherpa engine in their series? I just want to get a reference so that I know what they should look like! Thanks.
