My 4.0 Litre Discovery appears to smell very hot after a run, the temp gauge is fine at about half way, however she appears to be using water, but I am not able to find a leak, no water in the oil, nor in the floor inside, any ideas pleas as there appears to be no ater in the header tank.

Thanks, Andy.:)

Sound to me like possible head gasket:rolly: . If the header tank top is tight up is there loads of pressure when you've been on a good run. Also the top hose won't be able to be squeezed in because off the pressure (be careful not to burn yourself). Plus when running is there steam coming from the exhaust and lastly check for a wet sparkplug. Hope its not but is a common problem with Rover V8s had to do mine a few weeks a go. You can go down to a good garage and they'll do a sniffer test (for free relly). Mine didn't show up though.

Thanks I'll take her for a run tomorrow and check the top hose at least there is plenty of pressure in the tank when I open it, all I've noticed out of the exhaust is some drops of water condensation.
Let you know about the hose.

Let me know how you get on. Mine also didn't read on he temp gauge to hot but mine's LPG so when it got low on water the engine stalled because the gas froze. But the V8s run a bit hot due to them being an alloy engine (well so I believe I'll be corrected if I'm wrong). Also mine didn't suffer on the power and when I striped it, it was only a hairline split.

This one is not losing on power I don't think, I have a 3.5 in a RR and the Disco pulls in 4th where the 3.5 pulls in 3rd. I'll check the top pipe tomorrow like you say and I'll ask a friend of mine in the garage trade to have a look at her he is a keen V8 man, let you know how I get on.
