Yeah i actually got as far as putting down a deposit on a V8, and then my insurers turned round and told me that they had made a mistake and wanted an extra £500 for 6 months insurance. So that kinda fell through...


that seems steep what company u with? i was still 19 when i got my 300tdi and i think mine was £1400 fully comp and that was on a 300tdi valued at over 7 grand
 
IM with footman james, the premium was only £558 this year, and i was 18 when i took out the policy.
It didn't fill the footwells, was a couple of inches lower than that.
Ta for the links to the ebay ones, i have got a search saved so i now get daily emails telling me about the new listings on there, hopefully something near enough to get to will come up.
 
I'm now confused. Unless it you have a massive lift kit, 2 inches below the footwells is well below the top of the wheels, not much over halfway up.
I now don't know whether to offer lots of sympathy, or suggest you were being silly!
 
Hmm, having looked back at the picture, (attached) which i havn't been able to view until now apart from the back of the camera, it is even shallower than i thought.
Does anyone know if this downpipe
ESR159 Front Pipe - 90 2.5 Turbo Diesel from FA450141
will bolt on to the rest of my NA exhuast, or will a turbo engine mean i need to replace the whole system?

the NA will have a smaller dia system, you might be able to bodge it together but you'd be better off looking at replacing the whole thing as a NA exhaust will restrict a turbo engine
 
a 200Tdi is the best replacement option, but as you say you can't get insured for it you may as well keep it orginal and look for a good used NA to stick in while your rebuilding the orginal

Looks like sympathy it is then.
Speed & splashes look dramatic and are fun, but it seems you've had a very expensive lesson in how not to go through water.
I remember hearing from a Land Rover Demo Driver that if they came back with as much as a splash mark on the bonnet they were called into the office!
