Well, many weeks of waiting, £800 of labour and parts at the local Land
Rover dealer on renewing the head gaskets, and a 500 mile test drive round
the Czech Republic later, the Disco seems to be ok to drive home. If the
block has gone porous, there's no sign of it yet, so, given a satisfactory
check over by the dealer today, I plan to keep my fingers firmly crossed and
head home over the weekend for what will be a second (1500 mile) test drive.
The heads were pressure tested and checked for alignment, all fine. There
was, however, no sign of any damage to the old head gaskets (I would have
felt happier if they had shown some sign of blowing, but they looked as
pristine as removed gaskets could hope to look!)
Thanks again to all those who posted advice so many weeks ago!
