I take it the pads are too "fat" to temporarily fit the longer ones?

You're not far from Simon Services in Normanton (LR specialist).
Might be worth a call, but I have no idea if they will be open or not.

Unless you just want to get the job done, don't panic!

You will not have a problem until you try to put new pads in.

unless the pads are near enough new that they won't fit. but that was my
thought, yeah - if the pistons are the same diameter, then fit 'em for now
to get mobile, if the pads will fit.

In a real emergency, I'd consider filing the pads down, meself :)

well, if you push the pistons fully in, and the pads won't fit by about 1mm,
then it's worth the loss of 1mm of pad material to get you going again.

You might however then find you're not able to exchange the pistons, having
used 'em.
