You are going down the wrong path here in my opinion [see post above for reasons]
However the Massey unit is smaller because it was fitted to engines that reved to just 2000 rpm at most.

Just trying to be helpful, oil bath were good in the day. Cleaned out plenty of them on series and tractors. To do the job properly you had to wash the wire mesh above the bath, messy job.
Tractors today have such large turbo engines an oil bath filter would likely need more oil than the sump.

Oil costs have gone up over time while the price of making quality paper elements has gone down.
Disadvantage of oil unit is you have to mount it vertical. Paper can be fitted at any angle.

Who know's Not that much difference in the end of the day. Main problem today people just do not want to do a messy job, proper clean of the bowl and mesh takes a bit of time. Paper element takes just a mo to change.

It is a messy job, but doesn't bother me that much. I put the two bits of the air filter housing in a bucket and let them drain out, then wipe out the bowl at the bottom, wash the mesh bit in diesel, let it all dry off, and reassemble.

Main attraction to me is the cost. Using cheapest possible engine oil, it probably costs a couple of quid, the paper and plastic elements in a Defender cost over a tenner!
