I am about to buy a vnt turbo to fit to my disco, the choice is between the Bell autos bolt on turbo or a "kit" from Allard. Apart from the obvious differences like price and ease of fitting ect does anybody know of any performance differences between the two turbos?
I asked the guy at Bell autos for some details but although he is a very nice guy and very helpful he couldnt/wouldnt answer some of my finer points whereas Allard could/would

I guess the info I am looking for is what boost the bell one runs (the allard one has an adjustable actuator) and what Garrett turbo it actually is.
Are the allard and the bell auto turbos the same size?

any help would be much appreciated as I am about to lay out a fair bit of money

thanks

Dave

Hi Dave

Did you ever get anywhere with this?
I'm in the same position at the moment looking for an upgrade and the choice is between BAS and Allard...

Cheers
Ben
Yes in the end I went with Allard. I think the allard turbo is a little bigger than the BAS one and I couldnt get much info out of BAS but as far as I can find out they only run their turbo at 0.8bar, I know its not all about boost pressure but that does seem a bit low. Allard were very helpful and spent loads of time answering all my questions. Another plus for allard for me is if I decide to change my engine to a td5 the turbo can go across to that, the BAS system is only 300tdi.
The Allard kit is almost bolt on just the exhaust needs a bit of fettling but now they have my pattern so hopefully from now their kits will be completely bolt on.
To say I am delighted with the kit is an understatement, its like a different engine, smooth and bags of power, virtually no turbo lag and very good economy if your careful. I did however do a fair bit of experimenting with boost pressure and fueling

If you need any help once you have made your choice just give me a shout

cheers

Dave

Cheers Dave,

There was another company but despite several attempts at contacting them and a few emails I never had a reply.

I'll have to look into the Allard kit a bit more then I think :)

Thanks
Ben

the other companies I looked at were M&D engineering and alisport both of which I believe use the turbo from the 2.8 brazil engine which I didnt want and they were also pretty expensive at around £1500 for the kit. there was also an italian kit that was pretty cheap but it looked a bit "home made"
