Hello, Can anyone help please?
Got a 54 plate TD5 Auto but last few days started noticing a vibration and noise when rev's reach approx 1800. This is when stationery and driving.
Garage 'Thinks' might need new gearbox but this is an expensive 'think' is anyone able to shed any light or had something like this happen?

Any help or advise will be great thank you.

Hi Santa1980
I am no expert and I'm sure several will be along later, but the first thing that occurs is - if the car does the vibrating and noise when stationery, how can it be the gearbox? Maybe I'm being dim but that doesn't quite make sense to me.
Where's the vibration coming from? Or where can you feel it?
I've been researching this lately because mine does a similar thing but at 2500-3000 rpm and under load, worse when cold and not when stationery. But, an easy thing to check yourself is the MAF sensor. If unplugging it temporarily gets rid of the symptom, it needs cleaning or replacing. Next on my list is get an opinion on the state of the engine mounts & UJs. You might want to look into changing the injector harness if it hasn't already been done and check for oil in the ECU plug. Mine's got an appointment for new gearbox oil as well.
Hope this is of some help. Good luck!
Priya
