V8 Noise

Hi, Great site that’s helped in the past answering many question re my series3 lightweight prob's, this is my first posting.

My 2003 V8 Discovery2 has developed a noise, sounds like a rattle / blowing exhaust and gets louder on acceleration – the local mechanic says on this model Land Rover fitted ‘manifold baffles’ and that’s what’s gone and it is a very big & costly job. I’ve never heard of and I can’t find any info on these baffles. Can anybody help?

Run your hand over the exhaust (not touching it obviously) while it's running and if it's leaking you'll feel the leak on your hand. Or use soapy water on all the joints & possible leaks (where the pipe joins the box is a usual place). If you can't find a leak then it will be a blown baffle. take it to an exhaust centre not a stealership.
