V6 Auto Change Mods

Can you help with this one? I know little about auto-boxes, but my Freelander V6 Mk1 doesn't change up to 5th until 40mph (ish), can it be modficied to change up earlier to aid economy?

I would have thought not but a certain mr Ashcroft is generally accepted as the king of transmissions so it might be worth a call?

Mine changes up to 5th at 38 to 40 mph, when feathering it. With foot on the floor it changes up to 4th at 80-85mph.

Your auto is very clever. It knows what it's doing, as it measures power required, torque/power generated, whilst selecting the correct gear, dependent of temp etc. You'll probably find the setting it's in at the moment is best for performance, power, economy and the drivability. If economy is what your looking for, then the v6 int the engine fer you. There are some companies out there that say they can alter the Freelander v6, to make it betterer. You’d have to do a lot of miles to get the cash back.

Yes thats right. I Think it's dependent on the limits of whats happening at the time. If you try to put it into 5th at 35mph using tiptronic, it will probably stay in 4th as the speed/revs and power ratio through the auto won't be suitable for 5th gear. As if the gear is too high at that speed.
