Having run my 1980 series 3 2.25 petrol on lrp or unleaded with a fuel additive for the past year I'm wondering whether it is alright to run it on unleaded or do I need to get the engine converted and at what cost ?

Running on Unleaded can be done for miles before valve wear occurs. You may find you need to adjust valve clearances more frequently as time goes on. As for conversion 'Turner Engineering' and 'ACR' produce remanufactured heads for unleaded at £300 up exchange. I fitted stage1 8:1 but in hindsight wish I had spent the bit extra and gone to stage 2 9:1 (increased BHP). It depends what you use vehicle for. You could carry on with additives but this kind of avoids the point of 'greener?' unleaded fuel.

Hi you can also have your cylinder heads converted by simply having hardened valve seats fitted will be cheaper than buying a replacement head.

the additive uses a chemical as close to lead as possible to prevent ingress on the valve seats. Although you may find youre's can run on unleaded by adjusting the timing.
