I have a 2001 Freelander which suffers from the two Freelander Jinxes!

A The three ABS warning lights come on even when we have new brakes and new sensors and new wires to the sensors.

B The car sometimes goes for six months perfectly well then it fails to start and after leaving it for an hour starts perfectly – it may do this persistently and we have changed the fuel pump twice, changed the fuel pressure sensor, changed the crank sensor and the wiring, changed the relays and cleaned all fuse and relay contacts.

We used to think it was linked to engine disablement related to the central locking, or to the gear position sensor but it is neither.

The non- start condition is variable:

It either(and usually) spins the engine well but no fire, but it also spins and tries to fire but stops or it sometimes just clicks as if the battery is dead ( rarely).

The old diagnostics show a diesel pressure problem but no detail.

I have had everything replaced and am, tired of the experts who tell me they have replaced this or that, and it remains as usual. ( trouble is it works OK as soon as you try to cure it!)
When running it runs perfectly and the problem is only at starting.
Any ideas ?
Oh and why do wheel-speed sensors from main dealers cost £150 and what looks exactly the same on ebay cost £12.50 and is thre really any difference between one field effect transistor and another?
