Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a tyre inflator, seems a few on the market. I was going to use the compressor on my td5 as I swapped the air for springs but my garage said it wouldn't be up to the job. But dubious as they removed it and never gave it me.

I have the Tmax BA2641, now plumbed inside the cab and running on-board air for the rear locking diff as well as for the tyres, through a manifold system. I'd recommend it to anyone, never had an issue with it. Cost about £40 a few years back at a show with some extras, dunno what they'd be now.

£55 now plus £6 p&p.

Purchased!

Cheers Paul!

I've got the T Max. It's not bad at all for occasional use. Get a posh Arb one if you're going on expedition.

Already bought the tmax now. ARB one is just a little to pricey at the moment

Exactly why I went for the Tmax ... £40 against £180+ .. no brainer for something that isn't really a critical part, just nice to have.

I got one of these at the local coup last week. Took it home, pressed the reset button and away it went. Question is, would this run in the 90 with an invertor? One of which I also got at the coup a while ago :D

That would depend on the capability of the inverter.
Anything less than a kilowatt - no chance.
A 1.2 kW to 1.5 kW unit, possibly, remembering there's an "inrush current" or surge when starting a motor.
A 2 kW inverter or more would probably do OK.

Yes, with a big enough inverter and a big enough battery to feed it.

It's probably best not to run inverters on their max rating for any length of time so I'd go for at least 1.5kw continuous (not peak)

But to be fair, the OP asked about "tyre inflators", seeing as he's about to embark on a bit of a day-trip down south, not a workshop compressor which could be used for inflating tyres.

Just a thought. I am hopeless with trickity and I wouldn't think the invertor I have is anything like that size.

Yeah i'm just after something to let out the air and pump them back up to 32PSI if I hit the soft stuff and get stuck. Cheers for all the advice though. I may be posting a picture of me stuck in sand scratching my head shortly

The only thing I'd be wary of is even if you don't plan to use it often you'll still REALLY need it to work when you do want it.

Driving for miles on 12psi looking for a petrol station with a working airline isn't fun

But I own a discovery td5......the air compressor is probably the most reliable thing on the vehicle :D. In all fairness you are right. Tmax is a reliable make though so should be ok?
