turbo?

Hi, I am after some opinions and help regarding my 03 td5 Disco please. I was pulling on to the A66 today and heard a squeal from the engine, it seemed to go and the car drove fine, however when I accelerated to join the A1 the squeal came back and stayed .There was a bit of smoke but nothing worse than normal. I managed to limp it for a bit before pulling off to check the pumps and alternator, they seemed fine so I rang for recovery , the patrol said the noise was coming from the turbo and it shouldn't be drove until it was changed. After he recovered me home I checked Rave and started to take off the turbo pipes, I checked for play in the blades but can't feel any .Is this normal and does it seem likely to be the turbo? My Disco has103k , an egr blanking kit and was remapped 2 years ago,
