Transfer box

Hi all,

I am going to have to replace my transfer box as my current one is missing a few teeth. I have been offered a 300tdi disco one. Apart from changing the handbrake cable gubbins. Have any of you had any issues with the ratio difference and engine pull???

what tyres are you running as makes quite a difference? I am running 265/75 16 with a auto and disco transfer , you would not want to go higher than that JMHO

i fitted a 300 disco box to my 90 and instantly missed the pull in 1st gear but the low box is the same and she does sit slightly better at motorway speeds now.

Bigsi13 have you turned the pump on yours or is it standard. I won't do it if it's still slow on the uptake with the pump turned up. Did have a spare defender box somewhere but it has vanished!!!

I haven't messed with my fuelling at all mate she's not slow but seems to miss the torque she used to have with a 90 box on,it depends on what you expect from it aswell .
I went from a 19j and fitted a disco lump so it seems quite frisky by comparison.

It's my main works/social vehicle so do a load of road miles. When I get to work I have a trek into the woods so low box could end up getting used more often. Is acceleration same in other gears or a bit slow in all?

for me it's more useable once yer rollin it's just pulling off that's odd untill you learn to give it a little more beans and I had to get used to changing gear at different times than i'd got used to but still a job worth doing as 300 boxes had better lubrication according to people on here and so better longevity.

Thanks mate. Decision made. I'll turn the pump up as well to make life a little easier too. Two and half teeth missing out of my current one. Apart from the deafening noise it's soldiered on for weeks now. Love landy's!!!

Changed my 90 box to a disco one recently and im loving it!
Most of my use is on roads and no towing anything but it is definately a good move for me.
