transfer box lever flopping about

As above my mates disco. He cant select low range as the lever is like its not engaged it's like stirring soup. Is there any common faults or is it new transfer box time?

sounds like the linkage is either broken or disconnected. pull out the center console to have a look or check it from underneath

hiya mate, i got same problem but i know its the linkage and the 13mm nut, however the metal bit that the rod goes through seems to have snapped. does anyone know a part number for this ?? and is there an easer way to get to it??

Hi mate

i had the same thing with my disco a few weeks ago. i took the centre console out and removed the rubber gator, you will see the top of the gearbox. folllow the linkages and you will see a box with 6 bolts in the top remove the bolts and the linkage, turn the housing over and you will see a rod with a selector. there is a grub screw on that selector that comes loose tighten that up and all my gears came back.
