reet mr sighontits, fer those that int gort it yet can yer explain why me old escort could go faster in 4th than it could in 5th? am having trouble getting anthony to grasp it so if i use some big tecnickle wurds it might help
Right ...... in 5th gear the problem was that the REVS were too LOW, and ther injun wan't making enuff POWER or torque to PULL against the drag of the road and the wind.
When you dropped a cog, the effect was (a) to get the injun REVS UP so it was revving up nearer the max power band AND (b) using a LOWER gear also multiplies the torque more, so you got a double whammy boost.
I used to like driving trucks with the range-change Eaton 15 speed gearbox, 'cos with that many gears I could keep the injun really on the boil all the time.
I hope Riggas isn't following this thread - he might learn summat and that would never do.
