Reet, Am I missing somefink?

Starter has been sticking, has its good and bad days,

I sprayed WD40 into it just before the MOT, worked a treat, then an hour before the test it decides to act the maggot again.

It passed the MOT, anyway..........

Removed starter yesterday, cleaned out all the grime in the coil, bushes looked grand.

Cogs and recoil shaft were all working, in fact I'd say it looked almost new inside.

Refitted the damn thing and its still sticking. Starts after about the 10th attempt, thats 9 clicks and a possible nothing when I turn the ignition.

Is there any special silicone spray for this annoying problem

Its gonna be a good weather this week, last thing I want to do is spend it bent over double in the engine bay. ;)

Thanks

wen i was learning me muckanics at college we was taught to clean them up spotless and not to use anything at all on em cus if ya oil or grease them the crap sticks to em,but i do remember summit about graphite grease being used very sparingly, cus its a dry grease.

my glow plug wire shorted on my block for a while, and that made the starter just click, and sometimes work. I bent it out the way, instant fix. Small amounts of WD on the starter components is ok cos it dries up after not too long, but clutch dust sticks to any wet oil and makes it useless.

Surely the MOT has nothing to do with starter motors? Ok, if your car won't start they can't test it, but I would reckon that if you push started it and told them to test it they can't fail you for a non-safety related mechanical problem.

As there are MOT testers on here, they will no doubt answer this ....
