By the time I get back to the uk the rangie will have clocked up 200 000 miles and maybe the time has come to get a replacement what are my options?

An l322
how about a RR sport
even an Evoke
or a disco 3 or 4

or spend a thousand or two and keep my P38

I have driven it for 100 000 miles and my main problem has been Batteries 4 new ones in 4 years and they gave out at the most inopportune time usually in a foreign country where i could not claim on warranty and usually camped in remote place. the last one I had to buy in Georgia about 200 euros worth so if I keep the car a dual battery system is the first thing to do. I carried a starter pack but even that has given up the ghost a waste of money if ever.

You will not fix any of the cars you quote in the back of beyond. The L322 and sport will give you loads more problems than a P38. I'd either keep the P38 or go Toyota.
What is causing your batteries to fail? Have you checked the alternator output or are your shaking them to death?
If you go for a second battery, look at grafting on a second alternator to charge it.

The original Bosch i had on it lasted 2 years and then i got one from battery warehouse that lasted 4 months then i got one in Sweden that lasted another 4 months than i got one in Mongolia that lasted about 1 year and had to replace it about 1 month ago.also replaced the alternator when the second one packed up as it was only putting out 13.8 volts
I could even be around your way in a couple of weeks time as i have to go that way back to the UK im in Greece at the moment.
I should be back in Australia now but this trip just kept getting longer with more interesting places to visit but i should be there by Christmas if no other diversion crops up.

I seen more trouble with Toyotas in Mongolia than with Landrovers and when i was there there were more Landrovers than Toyotas
