Hi I am new on this site and have recently bought a 2006 freelander td4. I have fitted a synergy 2 Ron box and I love the car! Pulls great and good on the diesel! Great for work as I work in roads maintenance. I noticed last week a ticking sound from the front It can become louder randomly and seems to get worse if you let your foot off the accelerator

How many miles are on the clock? Did you do anything to the motor just before the ticking sound started?

Hi. There's about 87,000 miles on it. Haven't done anything to the motor no. I have a video of the sound but can't seem to upload it. Sound like it's coming from the front underneath

If you're working on the roads, have you checked to see if anything has got stuck between your brake discs and pads or somewhere in between.

I have a set of drop links on the way as they need changed. I will check discs and pads. I had noticed this morning that the front wheels were warm to the touch after the short 15 min drive to work. Maybe something is stuck. Car still pulls and brakes well. It's definitely a metallic clinking/ticking sound that appears randomly, gets louder then fades away. I can also hear a "ticking" as the engine is idling but it doesn't increase in volume at all as I accelerate

It might be that with working on the roads that you've picked up some tar or bitumen and then some gravel. This may not be the problem, however, it's worth getting rid of the obvious before the more difficult.

Yeah thanks I'll certainly have a look. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix! I have read some other threads on a ticking sound from the front and seems it could be a number of things too!
