I'm thinking of getting rid of my freelander!!! Can somebody talk me out of it!!! Please! Lol it's nearly 13 years old now and there's just problem after problem after problem and yes it's a k-series I love it but it's doing my head right in!

I've just spent that and stuffs still going wrong! I just haven't got the time to do anything myself so I've got to take it to a garage! Luckily I can leave it on the drive and use my car. Don't like using my car every day tho like to keep that clean and keep the mileage down lol

Well..... I've changed the front calipers disks and pads and the brake servo because for sum reason the brakes were sticking and my garage advised me to do the lot, then the timing belt needed changing. Then I had to do the head gasket, water pump and thermostat. The whole exhaust needs replacing as there's holes everywhere! There's a few bits of rust coming through on the body which I've just noticed. And the brakes are still sticking and the engines still over heating! Apart from that its brilliant!!! LOL
 
hang on in there mate. the misses keeps telling me it was a bad idea with the fl but for what i payed for it (£500) with 9 month mot and what i need to spend on it i think i will have a good fl once done. its all ware and tear stuff that needs doing

disks+pads
vcu+bearings
diff seals
full exhaust
4 tyres
possible maf sensor

am sure there will be more :)

mls gasket wiv metal dowels?
new headbolts?
new timing belt tensioner?
did you flush the coolant and oil?
have you bled the cooling system properly?


the brakes do stick occasionally, this is normal
 
Well between me and my old man we have had it from new so it was bought and payed for ages ago and was handed down so i had it for free lol :) so things aren't all that bad

Metal dowels, I'll check,
New head bolts, yes
New tensioner, I'll check
Coolant and oil, yes
Bled the system, when I start it I can here water slushing about so I'm gonna ask them about that.
Brakes yea every now and again when I use them a lot and then I have to stop and wait for them to cool down for 10 mins then I'm good again

I'd put money on the cooling system bleed being the cause of your overheating issue, there are two bled screws in the system.
one on the heater hose, easy to spot and one under the dizzy cap in the metal conduit, not so easy to spot.

Another good tip is to knock out the ball bearing in the jiggle valve on the inlet manifold, but this can only be done with the manifold off.

The garage told me its a self bleeding system? Is this true at all? Thanks for the advise by the way :)

Yea the garage. Well I'm confident with a spanner but as far as the head gasket goes I wasn't confident to tackle that lol like the exhaust and brakes and suspention and stuff I'll do myself and have done myself before its all about confidence lol

Lol I'm trying my best not to I need some positive comments to stop me burning it lol

No mate that is very far from the truth as you can get :mad:

they are not hard to bleed but it has to be done thoroughly.

we've all been there
