I'm not no stranger to bmw engines and there stupid plastic mouldings...taken my stat off more times than had hot dinners last month ....what's puzzling me now ...that it won't seal,permanent leak from top....no matter what o ring ...added a touch of instant gasket to get me home this weekend....anyone else had this problem with the plastic moulding being deformed after years ?

Possibly only people who have located the peg on the stat in the wrong place.

Nope...all correctly fitted like a glove ...just no seal to the block ..I'm going to give it a quick scratch up on a sheet of 150sia paper...see if that will flatten edge ..

That does not mean it has not been incorrectly located previously and distorted the housing. Seating the O'ring on Hylomar with a smear around the outside is good policy.
