Finally traced the god awful stench in me workshop to this floating island of maggots in me flooded inspection pit. Anyone guess what it was?

Rat? Hedgehog? Womble?

Anyone else found a corpse in their pit? How the kinnel do you clean the stink out? I've got me handbrake to sort out and me props to change but I ain't equipped with a gasmask!

Pump pit out then chuck in loads of Jeyes fluid and scrub vigorously with a long handled scrubbing brush. Longer the better I think in this case. leave for 30 minutes CUE tea break, return and flood pit to same depth as earlier, slosh water around then pump out again. Smell should now be gone. to prevent further flooding dig an hole in the corner of the pit about 12"x12"X12" drop water pump with autofloat switch in to hole and run hose out of pit and cover hole Now when ever the new sump fills up with water the pump will automatically turn on and pump water away Hey presto no more flooded pit.

get in there with a shovel and get the corpse out, then wash the pit out with some disinfectant i would suggest one of the following
Antec farm fluid
antec vircon s
or antec hyperox
Antec International Ltd. - Aquaculture

BTW. farm fluid would need to be diluted to about 100:1 water:product
vircon s comes in powder form and needs to be diluted 200mg to about 5l water
hyperox is evil use gloves when handling it!

Thank you one an' all. Sounds like good advice but it would be even better if I could find someone else to scrub it out for me!
Got plenty of decent disinfectant but don't know if I should be stockpiling it incase the foot and mouth breaks loose again.
Think my sub pump would have a hard life if I left it on, pit get about 3 foot of water in it each day so only pump as and when the pit is needed.
Maybe if I got round to making a new cover the pit wouldn't be open for passing rodents/small children/big game/fookin leaves etc to fall in to their doom.

It needs tanking then to cure the leak.
