Hi Folks,
New member, first post and 1st Land Rover. 1984 LR90 2.5n/a Deisel.

I bought it two weeks ago and have been going round making up my list of things to do.
It was during this that I had the bulkhead experience not pleasant I can tell you. To cut a long story short the RH footwell area is corroded and holed. I have been trying my best to research this and have discovered that Im not the only one.

I would like to repair this area with a repair panel, I contacted paddocks, and was told that they do not supply a panel footwell repair panel for the 90, but they do have a footwell panel for the series LR. They told me that it was not quite the same but I could make it fit. Has anyone ever done this type of repair,? should I buy this bit or get a welder to fabricate a new piece.

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a new complete bulkhead for an LR90. And how much it will cost

And finally where can I get a Parts Catalogue

Not bad for a first post eh,
please go easy on me
regards
James

Hi,

just to let you know i'm in the same position with a 94 110 high capacity and some rust all along the top of the bulkhead. i thought that I could just replace it but now I'm scouring the internet and am visitind Dunsfold L/R tomorrow as a starting point.

I'd love some help and can let you know what dunsfold have to say.

Regards

Andy Treasure

Thanks Andy, I look forward to hearing what you find out, since I posted this topic I have found a guy up here in Scotland that buys and strips down Land Rovers, he told me recently that he just sold a complete bulkhead including all the dash ect for £300, So I have told him to conntact me as soon as he gets another one.
I quite like the idea of not only sorting the rust thing for good with the new bulkhead. but also having a more modern dash setup.

Hi Steve, just got back to landy zone after a wee while abroad, I read your post regarding new bulkheads, yes I would be very interested in this fella selling new ones, if you could email me at [email protected] with his details I would be most grateful.

I will also post this just in case you dont see the message.

What do you drive yourself and do you have any pics?
regards

I Have Just Completed A Similar Repair, If The Vechile Is Not Going To Be A Show Vechile, Then Assuming The Repair / Corroded Area Is Below The Brake /clutch Mounting Points(towards The Bottom Of The Pedals) Then Repair Is A Good Option.the Series Repair Footwell Will Do The Job,once Cut Into Pieces Reqd. However, It Is Easier To Fabricate An Overlap Piece, once All Rust Is Neatly Cut Out,and Mig Weld.not As Bad As It Seems.of Course You May Need Help Fabricating/welding. A Few Hours All In.you Can Get The Right Gauge Mild Steel As An Offcut At Any Local Metal Suppliers, Usually Cost Arond £5:00 For A Sheet Approx 3ft X 3ft.

Hi james if you type landrover bulkhead as your search on ebay it will come up normally with two guys selling (not bidding) bulkheads , Mine has just arrived they are genuine landrover , ill try and post some pics of my 90 when its done cheers steve

if your rust area is not too wide spread, and contained within the footwells and kick panel, you can just mark out the area, cut it off and weld in an overlap piece as mentioned.

this will solve your problem, but if a bulkhead transplant is your game, then sounds like real fun. i've never gotten to try it. i did the cut and weld job on my SIII.

something to note when doing the kick panel is to take note if the rust is spreading from the inside which makes things a little tricky and you need to treat the inside before applying the new piece over to make it last.

Hi
Im New And Have A Rusty Foot Well On My 90 And A Bit Of Rust On The Top Around The Screen And May Need To Put In A New Bulk Head How Many Hours Work Is It Worth
Cheers

Changing something like the bulkhead can be a fairly big job... it depends really on experience, preperation and what you can learn before you start. For example, its much easier and quicker in most cases to cut the old bolts off and use new fittings all round.

A garage near me will fit a new galv chassis in a day for £1800-2000, they have a big flat box like an oversized cutlery drawer organiser with evey nut and bolt required, so in a nutshell; it is possible to do it in a day.

yup new ones and they came with my series 111 kit . i bought it to strip down and rebuild cos the po's wife ran out if patience, and it had a ship load of bit in it. it even had the front swivels on upside down. but no i don't kno wwhere to get new one . you could try paddocks or craddocks or maybe bearmach.
