On my 2.5 diesel the temp needle oscillates quite a lot for what im used to (the one in my vw golf doesnt move at all.). it moves about one mark left/right on normal running.

my question is wether this is normal or should i take a look at the sensor and the effects it could have in performance.

My temp needle on my DSE does this and there have been threads on this in the past. Basically it showed that most DSE owners see the temp needle move around quite a bit. Depending on the ambient temp and how im driving mine generally moves from about the 10 position up to the 12 and then will drop back down again.

As long as it doesn't go past the 12 (straight up) position then you should be fine.
