I ordered a clutch oil seal the other day with some other bits for the gearbox change on my 300tdi defender.

Now having removed the flywheel to expose the original oil seal, there is tiny bit of oil made its way past but nothing bad by any means. This is a uk made part which makes me think it is of good quality.

Just to clarify what a bit is, its not even made its way down the back of the bellhousing, just a touch sitting around the flat flange the seal plate sits on.

Assuming the new one turns out to be a non genuine, or general ****e pattern part I am considering leaving the old one in there as in my experience anything cheap/patter/chinease is just rubbish.

What are peoples thoughts on retaining the current seal? I'd like to think I shouldn't need to touch the clutch again for 30k or so.

Thanks

James
