We were sitting yesterday evening pondering on why there is a damper in the
clutch pipe on 200 & 300TDi engined manual transmission vehicles; and
whether the complete pipe assembly could be simply replaced with a single
braided hose?

The damper absorbs the small fluctuations in hydraulic pressure caused by
slight variations in engine speed at low rpm.

Now given that this isn't a servo system, why should engine speed affect
the pressure?
