Seem to be getting a strong smell of diesel when I get out of the car sometimes. The smell seems to be strongest around the rear off side wheel arch and I have checked the obvious for signs of puddles, but nothing. A while ago I had the warning light come on warning about excessive water in filter, so I drained that which cured that problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Silly question! did you tighten the water drain thingey properly?

or the fuel filter is down there is that leaking

Also i believe theres an issue with the fuel line rubbing through on the chassis at some point underneath the car! its worth getting on yer back and having a look for any damp spots!

landrover did do a recall on some discos about this matter!

:D

The fuel there is under a lot of pressure (4 BAR / 60 psi) and the fuel returning from the engine is very hot.

There are four push-fit connectors on the filter head, a ring gasket between the filter unit and the screw-on element, and that water trap.

I think you need to get it up on a ramp and check the fuel lines all the way to the engine and back just in case one's been damaged.

Thanks chaps, I did re-check what I had tampered with when emptying the excess water, so will check out the other suggestions.
Charles, I have deposited the secret ingredient into the S3 overdrive, just waiting to clock up a few more miles to see if it makes a difference, will keep you informed, thanks for your help, Paul
