hi all, i sold my Defender to my mate about two years ago, but soon getting it back as he wants to get a pickup. I'm ordering some service bits and can't remember which brands were best for which filters! Any recommendations? We normally use Coopers filters for the vans, but I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Also best brand for auxiliary belt?

I used to have a very handy two-piece tool for removing the viscous fan too, but sold it when I sold the defender. I can't find them anywhere now - I think I bought it on eBay from someone that was making them. Perhaps their boss found out! Is there anything else similar recommended?

I'll probably do the gearbox, transfer box and diffs too as they wont have been done recently so need to look up what oils I used.

Cheers,
Tom

I'd only use a genuine oil filter, l tried an aftermarket one and it would not fit as it was a fraction longer and the space for getting it in position is limited.

I've used aftermarket ones without problems, but some makes are better at certain things than others. I can't remember which was what. With my D4 it just gets genuine everything, not so keen to do that with a 16 year old defender!
