td5 or 300tdi for my lifestyle ?

Hi im looking at getting my first disco end of this year. still torn on whether to get the 300tdi or TD5, i know this is a common question so my apologies šŸ˜‚. i commute short distance 5 days a week but i travel a 70 mile round trip every couple of weeks to go shooting in north wales (and if course the occasional pay and play) But ordinary cars just cannot hack the climbs from peg to peg on the shoot so this is my solution haha!
obviously fuel consumption is a big part of this decision and i will be putting 2ā€ lift with 32s but thats about it on big mods so i need to reasonable advice on which engine to go for, cheers Sam
 
honestly, would just be for looks but also alot of the discos im seeing in my price range already have 2ā€ kits on them so wouldnt be taking that off when i buy
 
the 300 tdi has less power than one of the ducks that you presumably shoot

it's also significantly noisier than the td5 so will chase away the very ducks you wish to harm

the td5 has a lot of power because they use elecktrickery that goes around and around in every increasing confusing circles that requires a very learned person to figure it out at a fee that is positively frightening

a tdi is however considered a mans vehicle while a td5 helps people cope with their other issues

You might have quite a search looking for a rust-free 300Tdi now. Any decent ones are now commanding decent money. The Td5 is much more common. Just check the electrics, air suspension if fitted and the rear chassis for rust. If you do get one thatā€™s modified with a suspension lift, make sure you donā€™t buy someone elseā€™s dog that has been abused. It would be best to find a nice example and modify it as you want.

I have a D2, great vehicle except for chassis rust. Spending a lot to get mot then getting chassis late in year.
 
As a former d1 and d2 owner, I would go with the d2 td5.
Awesome vehicles.
Leaps ahead of the d1.
The only vehicle I truly regret selling. Even more than my s2.

If finances allow opt for air suspension.

And the diff lock.

Given how prices are heading, if I wasn't spending a small fortune on a basket case s3, I'd get another D2 , stick it on a galvanized chassis and get the air and ace overhauled.

Faults are well documented and easy to fix BEFORE they become a problem!šŸ˜‰šŸ‘
