I am loosing engine coolant but not out of cap on top bottle, have new radiator, no external leaks because no drops of orange coolant on the clean garage floor. Loosing 0.5 litre per hour of driving. 2000 Disco done 205,000Km. Thought cylinder head may have moved but shouldn't this pressurise the water jacket and blow out through cap? Any ideas. Also, if I replace the head gasket, and there is no pitting around cylinder edge from heat ring in old gasket, do you need to shave/grind these heads? Do they commonly crack from warp at re-fit?

Thanks

Check under your carpets, the heater rad leaks into the car so no leaks shown outside.

Dave
If it's the heater rad you'll probably smell anti-freeze. But on a TD5 it's probably a cracked head. They tend to crack at the exhaust ports and burn off the coolant. Are you getting any steam out of the exhaust?

If you're lucky it might just be the gasket. When replacing head, use new bolts and STEEL DOWELS.

The Other Dave.
