I have sent my 2002 TD5 back to where i bought it from twice now because the rear suspension does not sit level, about an inch difference side to side, sensors have been replaced, compressor checked by independent dealer and given the all clear. I noticed today that the front is also an inch lower on drivers side, looked under and could se 7 coils on nearside spring but only 6 on offside, there is a turret type thing on top of the coil spring which looks like the rear air bag turrets, also small bore plastic pipes run there wwhich look like the same as the ones to the rear air bags.
Does the front have airbags on top of the coils and is the height adjustable at the front in any way??????
All help will be gratefully received!!!!

After replacement of the ride height sensors on my TD5 I am up on the rear by about an inch on the one side.

I will be booking it in for 'suspension calibaration' when i get the chance is it effects the car in exactly the same way as yours.

The calibration procedure adds calibration block above the rear axle, then the car is connected to a 'test book computer' and lowered onto the the blocks using the software from the computer to activate the compressor and valves. the onboard SLABS (self leveling suspension/ABS) computer is then reset to this level and all is well again.

I have been quoted about £80 to have it done, by a Main Stealer only as they have the correct kit.
- no air bags at the front mate!

Have crawled back under this morning and had a proper look, coils on front are ok, depends what angle you look from as to how many coils you count. Everything else looks good. I did note that when i disconnected the sensors the drivers side does sit an inch lower when it is resting on the axle so it would make sense that it needs dropping, block sitting in and re-setting.
Does anyone know if a disconnection of the ecu for suspension would work when sitting my own 1" block of wood into the suspension??? If so where do i find the ecu for suspension.

nope.

the sensors work on 'hall effect' and therefore need their output readings put into the computer at baseline in order to zero them.

however if you want to have a go and save me £80, the ECU is behind the glovebox.

I have just phoned my local main stealer who told me that it is 80 quid to have it calibrated, i explained the inch difference side to side and they told me that up to an inch difference is normal and that callibration would not necessarily rectify this.
So basically give us 80 quid and we will give it back the same and take your money for nowt!!!!
dontcha just love em. check with your local dealer if this is correct as you may be dissapointed with the results if this is correct.

I was actually gonna try slackening off the bolts that hold the ride height sensors in place and rotating the square sensor unit a couple of degrees, even drilling the holes out very slightly to give me this option, then resetting the bolts with some locktite and a locking washer.

I too am loathed to pay them £80 for something as daft if they cant get it 100% accurate.

Battenberg,

That's an interesting idea, please let me know how you get on should you try it. My TD5 also sits to one side front and rear. The rear airbags are good and I can't see what would be causing the problem but it always sits over on the nearside slightly.
