Lads,

I removed the clutch from a 2002 defender.

The problem is that there is play in the flywheel.

Can anyone tell me how much play is allowed?

Regards David

Play in which direction?
There will almost certainly be a tiny bit of perceptible rotation movement of the flywheel due to the running clearances of the big-end bearings and piston ring cleances in the ring groves; and there will be a thou or two fore and aft movement as well due to clearances at the end-thrust washers.

There must be NO suspicion that the flywheel is loose on the crankshaft.

I reckon you are being careful, and have noticed the normal running clearance that exists in all engines.

just change the flywheel the same time as the clutch, you'll only end up having to strip it all again. pick them up new on fleabay for under £200.
