Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered before but can't seem to find much on searching.

Yesterday at work after my 110 (2002) had been sat for about 5 hours I fired it up to move further down a track and was followed by a lot of blue smoke:eek: (oil right?)

Its never done it before and touch wood been very reliable over the past 2 years.

After a few seconds it cleared and on the 30mile trip back home it ran fine and no smoke at all.

Fired it up this morning from cold and blue smoke again:(. Cleared and a quick run up the road showed no problems.

Anyone else experienced this? expensive bill coming up?

I've checked the wastegate rod and it moves quite freely but squirted some WD40 into it anyway. Pulled the MAF sensor off but no difference. Engine oil level appears steady and doesn't seem to be any coolent loss.

Any thought greatly appreciated - especially as we're hoping to go camping next week and I'm starting to panic:eek:!

Cheers

Are we talking clouds and clouds of smoke or just a little puff of smoke

Used to have an old fiesta and this did it only on start up. Turned out it was the valve stem oil seals, basically they were just rubber sleeves that the valve guides sat in, eventually they started to harden and when the engine was off, traces of oil used make it's way into the cylinders which caused blue smoke in start up. I reached the seals (With the aid of compressed air into the cylinder block so the valves didn't drop into the cylinder), never had the problem again.... It was everything else that went on it :)

Not too up on the td5's, but it may help you look in the right place

Hi Jailon,

Cheers for the reply, it's not tonnes of blue smoke but enough for me to notice and get out of the truck to investigate - especially as its never done it before!

Had the same this morning but let the engine tick over for a few minutes before pulling off and there was far less smoke. Forgot to mention in my first post that at tick over its completely clear, it's only when you start to lift the rev's a little that it start to smoke.

Once cleared though and as long as it's not sat for too long its doesn't seem to smoke at all so it could be what you suggested. I'll start to research that - cheers:)

Cheers Matt,

From reading that thread it looks like I should be investigating the valve guides (asuming Td5's have them??)

Or pull the glow plugs and have a gander if any oil is on them.

.....the search continues!!

Any other suggestions greatly accepted :)
